Slamming
Whilst we may sometimes think we live in a world of political correctness gone mad, there are still occasions where old and new stigmas arise resulting in individuals being left behind, pushed back and shut out of opportunities reserved for only those who presumably 'fit the brief.'
During the summer, we contacted as many people as we could find who felt that they had been unfairly treated by companies who'd denied them jobs, bars who'd refused them entry, shops who couldn't accommodate their basic needs and in almost all cases, social circles apparently not wide enough to include them.
After finding and selecting our contributors, we filmed them in a variety of interesting locations and quite literally slammed a door on them. As harsh as it sounds, it is intended to emphasise the message that as a society this is what we do to ordinary, able and equal people every day.
The exhibit will be displayed onto state of the art Christie Tiles at 'The Egg' inside the University of Salford's Media City Campus.
Most of the people we contacted are featured in the project as themselves and those who were unavailable or uncomfortable being filmed were portrayed by actors or models. All are from the local Salford and Manchester area.
